As you may have seen in my last blog post, 5 Fall Style Trends, statement pieces are getting all of the attention in the fashion world. Not only are we talking about statement jewels, but also statement hats, boots, coats, and more. In order to create a well-balanced outfit, though, we have to have the basics.
The following are basics that I either own myself or have something very similar to. They are the pieces that are timeless and will hold up in your wardrobe for years to come.
1 - Dark Denim Jacket -
Like the one I have on for this look, Gap's denim jackets are my favorite. Honestly, I don't usually find much I love in Gap, but they do hold up in the denim department! I picked dark denim for basics because I think it's the most versatile.
2 - Simple Bootie -
I live in booties as soon as I can. I think they're fun and cuter than knee-highs or thigh-highs for every day wear. I have a bit of an obsession with booties, so I have them in many colors. If we're just going for basics I would 100% pick a black leather pair first, then a camel color or some suede.
3 - Cropped Hi-Rise -
We all know hi-rise is the only rise we need in our life. It's so much more flattering than anything else on every type of body shape in my eyes. I like a good cropped jean for fall to show off your booties. (I mean the shoes! ;)) Sometimes I'm here for the jean rolling, but other times it looks awkward. A cropped jean is the perfect solution. They also look effortless with a tee and sneakers.
4 - Flannels on Flannels -
I recently have been in the mood to wear cozy flannels all day. I'd consider it a step up from my usual athleisure uniform. This flannel from Something Navy's September collection is simple enough to wear with a dope trench coat, but also has feminine details that make it pretty (and long enough) on it's own on those days that you feel like putting on leggings instead of real pants...
5 - Neutral Knit Sweater -
I find that a knit is the perfect layering piece. In Florida, it's often all we need. If the weather drops to 50-60 it's totally reasonable to throw on under a leather jacket. If you are anywhere colder it still looks adorable with a big teddy coat. Isn't the goal to be on-trend/stylin' AND mostly comfortable everyday anyways?
